Born and raised in Medellin, Colombia for the first 15 years of her life, Mrs. Hamnik immigrated to the United States in 1998, became a U.S. citizen and embarked in the American Dream and the pursuit of happiness. Through hard work and diligence, Liliana recognized the vast need to inform and educate the fast growing Latino Community in Indiana. One year after her arrival into the states, her concept became a reality.
She has really impacted the community by serving many nonprofit organizations, sponsoring youth soccer teams, organizing mother’s day events and much more. Not only is she a leader within the Immigrant Business community, but she is well known and respected for her business savvy in other business circles outside of the Hispanic Community. In addition to owning Indiana’s leading bilingual newspaper, La Voz de Indiana, she owns several retail outlets including a hair saloon as well as a Christian bilingual magazine called La Voz Cristiana.
She has assisted and aided many groups and organizations in some capacity throughout the city; such as several churches of different denominations, the non-for profit organization known as, sponsored Figure 8 Race Car Driver Molina racing team as well as multiple Indiana Soccer Teams. She has been able to help IPS, Crime Stoppers of Indiana and the community as a whole, through the use of her publication. Currently she is embarking on several projects to help support and beautify the West Washington Corridor. These include a 30’x40’ mural on the theme of “Embracing Diversity”, the motto behind her publications and a Vigil to the Virgen of Guadalupe next to the offices of La Voz de Indiana.
Some of the recognitions received by Mrs. Hamnik include; Hispanic Businesswoman of the year 2006, SBDC Entrepreneurial Sprit Award 2004, Kroger Outstanding WMBE 2004, Mayoral Proclamation day of La Voz de Indiana 2003, City of Indianapolis Recognition 2003, Julia Carson Certificate of Honor 2002 and multiple recognitions for community service, as well as multiple recognitions from the Consulate of Mexico in Indianapolis. |
