Bush y la amenaza terrorista

Lo que digan los detractores políticos de George Bush ya poco importa, lo indiscutible ahora es que los recientes hechos ocurridos en Georgia le han dado, una vez más, la razón. Estamos frente a la amenaza terrorista de ‘Estado’ más grande de la historia: Rusia.

A mediados de los años ochenta, el líder ruso Mijail Gorvachev inició un conjunto de reformas conocidas con los nombres de Perestroika y Glasnost. En esencia, estas reformas buscaban modernizar las estructuras económicas, sociales, religiosas y políticas de la ex Unión de Repúblicas Socialistas (URSS), bajo un enfoque similar al de Occidente. Lo que pasó después, ya es historia: la URSS desapareció, dando lugar al surgimiento de pequeños países. Otros países sometidos por el poder de la URSS, lograron su soberanía a plenitud. Todo el planeta celebró el surgimiento de un mundo libre, y sin la amenaza de una guerra nuclear.

Al cabo de 20 años, la sombra de una guerra nuclear vuelve a surgir, y lo hace con mayor fuerza que antes. Bajo el liderazgo de Vladímir Putin (Primer Ministro Ruso) y con el apoyo estratégico de Mahmud Ahmadineyad (Irán)  y Hugo Chávez (Venezuela), la seudo ideología comunista pareciera que estuviera surgiendo desde las cenizas. Si a esto se suma la guerra fundamentalista que se está desatando en Irak y Afganistán, bien podría decirse que al mundo se avecinan años grises y de gran desequilibrio.

Como nunca antes, el dicho ‘si quieres la paz, prepárate para la guerra’ dibuja con precisión lo que probablemente ahora tanto Estados Unidos como la Unión Europea, e incluso Asia, estén pensando hacer.  Los que creyeron en algún momento que el terrorismo se concentraba sólo en una lucha contra los fundamentalistas musulmanes, se equivocaron. El terrorismo, sin importar su origen, es terrorismo: es el gobierno del terror. La historia del siglo XX nos muestra que el mayor terrorista ha sido Rusia (URSS), pues sometió a muchos pueblos con la mano dictatorial del comunismo, en la modalidad de terrorismo de estado. Al desplomarse este sistema, por lo mentiroso y falaz, pues decía que con el comunismo todos estarían bien porque todos serían iguales, se descubrió la gran pobreza económica en la que habían vivido por décadas  los pueblos sometidos.

La insistencia de Bush para reforzar las fuerzas militares en Irak no ha sido para derrocar sólo al terrorismo fundamentalista, sino para enviar un mensaje a cualquier país con inclinaciones dictatoriales sobre los demás pueblos.  Los que no entienden esto, o son demagogos o poseen conocimientos limitados. En cualquier caso, ya es hora de abrir los ojos para ver lo que se avecina a nuestro sufrido mundo.

Bush and the Terrorist Threat

Whatever George Bush's political detractors say matters little already. The unquestionable fact now is that the events that took place in Georgia recently have, once again, proven him right. We are facing the biggest terrorist threat from a nation in history: from Russia.

In the middle of the eighties, Russian Leader Mikhail Gorvachev began a series of reforms known with the names of Perestroika and Glasnost. In essence, these reforms sought to modernize the economic, social, religious, and political structures of the former Union of Socialist Republics (USSR), under a focus similar to that of the West. What happened later is already history: the USSR disappeared, giving place to the emergence of small countries. Other countries subjected by the power of the USSR, achieved their full sovereignty. The whole planet celebrated the emergence of a world free and without the threat of a nuclear war.

After 20 years, the shadow of a nuclear war arises again, and it does it with more strength than before. Under the leadership of Russian Prime Minister Vladimir Putin and with the strategic support of Mahmud Ahmadineyad (Iran) and Hugo Chavez (Venezuela), the pseudo communist ideology seems as if it were arising from the ashes. If the fundamentalist war taking place in Iraq and Afghanistan is added to this, it could be said that the world is approaching gray years of great imbalance.

Like never before, the saying, ‘if you want peace, get ready for war' accurately outlines what the United States as much as the European Union, and even Asia, are probably planning to do now.

Those who, at any time, believed that terrorism was only concentrated on a fight against Muslim fundamentalists, made a mistake. Terrorism, no matter its origin, is terrorism; it is the government of terror. The history of the XX century shows us that the biggest terrorist has been Russia (the USSR), because it subjected many nations with the dictatorial hand of communism, in the modality of state terrorism. When this system collapsed, for being a liar and false, because it said that, with communism, every one would be all right because every one would be equal, the great economic poverty in which the subjected peoples had lived for decades was discovered.

Bush's insistence upon strengthening the military forces in Iraq has not been only to overthrow fundamentalist terrorism, but also to send a message to any country with dictatorial proclivities over other nations. Those who don't understand this are demagogues or they possess limited knowledge. Anyway, it is already time for opening our eyes to see what is approaching our suffering world
